5 reasons to visit North Wales This Winter

If it’s a break of new experiences, foodie delights, complete relaxation or family fun you’re in need of this winter, North Wales won’t let you down.

Explore castles, hike mountains, watch breathtaking performances or glide through the air at 100mph on the world’s fastest zip line. There are plenty of reasons why you will love visiting North Wales this winter, and our seafront Llandudno hotel will be your cosy base when it’s time to slow down, refuel and relax.

North Wales is a playground

North Wales is the place to play and try new activities year-round; bounce your way down a cavern the size of St Paul’s Cathedral at Bounce Below, take a pony trek through Snowdonia or a speedy and exhilarating rib ride along our spectacular coastline.

Bring your mountain bikes and tick off the best routes, climb to your hearts content at the Beacon Climbing Gym (indoor centre with roped walls, bouldering and colour-coded climbs and lessons available for all ages.) or if you’re looking for something more relaxing on your North Wales break, you can’t beat a ramble through the countryside or along a long sandy beach to blow away the cobwebs and take in our spectacular views.

Winter walks and hikes

The best of coast and country – North Wales has it all; seaside, woodland and mountains. No matter whether you enjoy a stroll along the coast or an epic day hiking in the mountains. North Wales is a walker’s paradise, with routes to suit all ages and abilities.

In winter expect to take in beautiful snow-capped mountains, frost-covered hillsides and crisp blue-sky days. But even on the wet days, the moody skies and dramatic mountainscapes are beautiful and worth enjoying from outside. Then, you can head back to your room to warm up and get cosy; perhaps sitting down to an indulgent Afternoon Tea, enjoying our sauna and steam room, or a swim in our hotel pool.

For experienced winter walkers and mountaineers, if there is snow you ought to pack B2 boots and crampons and hit the hill. But for those looking for something a little less adventurous on snowy winter days, stay to the lower paths, enjoy woodland or lakeside walks and play in the snow in the foothills of Eryri’s mountains.

Family fun

Keep everyone entertained during your North Wales visit this winter with local family-friendly attractions.

Head to the Welsh Mountain Zoo at Colwyn Bay. A small conservation zoo that started as a small family run business, the Welsh Mountain Zoo – also known as the National Zoo of Wales, is the oldest and most established Zoo in Wales.

Discover Zip World; Velocity sends you across the world’s fastest zip line at 100mph, or you can take on the winding Fforest Coaster, play Underground Golf, or go Bounce Below!

On rainy days, head to GreenWood so they can burn off energy at the Soft Play in the Woodbarn Café, suitable for all ages, with a separate area for little ones to keep them safe while having lots of fun!

Or visit the fascinating Anglesey Sea Zoo; the unique aquarium home to more than 40 tanks with over 100 species of fish and sea life, showcasing the best of British marine wildlife.

Go back to nature

Our Llandudno hotel is perfectly placed between the two famous headlands, the Great Orme and the Little Orme. At a mere 350 million years old and sitting 679 feet above sea level, the Great Orme is the perfect spot to enjoy views of Anglesey, Puffin Island, the Isle of Man and the Lake District.  With its fascinating geology, archaeology, wildlife and history the Great Orme has a number of protective designations including Heritage Coast and Site of Special Scientific Interest.

The diverse habitat of the Great Orme is home to native and rare flora, over 400 different types, as well as copious wildlife which is why it’s a popular filming spot for TV programmes like BBC Countryfile. One of the most popular animals you could see on the Great Orme is the Kashmiri goats who have roamed the headland for over 200 years
