As the days slowly get shorter with the impending arrival of autumn, the weather often offers us a late burst of summer. So for those that want to hold on to the sun for just that little bit longer taking a break at this time of the year is just the tonic before winter.
The changing colours of the season offer breathtaking scenes and nowhere more so than in North Wales with many vantage points across the region to soak up the spectacular views. Snowdonia National Park offers picturesque forests, mountains, streams and rivers, while Conwy Valley with the River Conwy flowing through it is noted for its variety from farmland and forests to heather moors and woods. Conwy Valley is also home to the National Trust’s world famous Bodnant Garden with expansive lawns, grand ponds and impressive terraces, a steep wooded valley and stream as well as awe-inspiring plant collections. The Garden offers a continually changing display of glorious colours especially at this time of year and runs events including a Tour with the Head Gardener and Specialist Walks, which allow you to find out more about its natural beauty.
With the return of the kids to school, the region takes on a more peaceful aura and with it the opportunity for visitors to enjoy all that the area has to offer in a more leisurely manner. Wales’ distinctive culture can be soaked up at the weekly Welsh Male Voice Choir concerts in Llandudno or you can see Cor Glanaethwy, this year’s Britain’s Got Talent finalists at Venue Cymru on Sunday 27 September.
Hosting local, national and international shows, Venue Cymru is well worth including on your list of things to do especially with the line up for this autumn. There’s the classic thriller An Inspector Calls, Dirty Dancing, RSC Live with Henry V and the Welsh National Opera with I Purtiani, Orlando and Sweeney Todd, to name just a few.
Other notable events include the 700 year old Conwy Honey Fair which was founded by Edward 1st; Llandudno Arts Weekend with theatre, dance, film, talks and family events; the Cambrian Rally which is the final round of the British Trials and Rally drivers Championship, and Conwy Feast, the largest celebration in North Wales of amazing Welsh produce, drink, art and music.
