Summer Of Sport: Sporting Activities Near Llandudno

Regardless of the weather, our seafront Llandudno hotel is ideally placed to be the base of your summer adventures.

North Wales, home to Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park, is jam-packed with sporting activities for the whole family throughout the summer. From water-based fun like swimming, surfing and sailing on the beautifully rugged coast, to biking, zip lines and hiking trails in the mountains.

Summer Swimming

If your family breaks usually centre around playing in the sea and the sand, then you can’t do much better than to head to our North Wales coastline. Our Llandudno hotel is located right on the Victorian seaside Promenade, so you can listen to the waves lapping the shoreline from your bedroom.

For families looking for family breaks in North Wales with a small, child-friendly beach, head over to West Shore Beach, a short 5-minute drive from our hotel, where you will find free parking, a café, toilets and safe swimming, whilst the sandy beach at low tide is great for kite-flying.

On wet-weather days, keen swimmers and paddlers can head to our Health and Fitness centre, Mint Condition, to enjoy our 45ft UV treated swimming pool, where children are welcome to use the pool between 9am and 6pm but must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

There is also a 25-metre, 8-lane competition pool, varied swimming sessions and a swimming lesson programme for all ages at Llandudno Swimming Centre.

Get Surfing

When on the coast, grab a board and ride the waves. If surfing is your bag or you’re looking to try it for the first time, there are some fantastic spots here in North Wales.

Head to the Llŷn Peninsula, where you will find that the Atlantic swells are generally more forgiving and less busy than the southern beaches. The swell at Porth Neigwl is considered to be fairly consistent and clean, whilst there’s a sandy bottom, which makes for great conditions for new surfers. Or, if you’re seeking something a little more sheltered, head to Traeth Penllech (Porth Colmon).
